We all worked really hard designing our vehicles. We had to think about the types of materials we would need and how we would join it all together! Check out some of our designs :)
After we designed our vehicles we then worked hard to create them and made sure that they rolled ready for our big HRSS Grand Prix race!!!
Prep D 'I like to move it, move it'
Welcome to Prep D's blog! This term our science unit is 'I like to move it, move it' and we are looking forward to sharing
what we learn with you and also learning from you.

Vehicle Experiments
Last week Prep D started to experiment with making vehicles. We came across a few problems with our experiments;
- wheels falling off (Tom)
- sticky-tape sticking to the wheels (Chloe)
- glue making the wheels not spin (Billy)
- vehicles sliding instead of rolling (Georgia)
- wheels up too high so the vehicle didn’t move at all (Chilli)
- making vehicles out of wood was too tricky (Billy)

How Many Wheels
Today we talked about how many wheels different things have. Can you think of any others???

Nucrush Visit
On Wednesday we were very lucky to have the trucks from Nucrush come to visit us here at school. We saw a concrete truck and a tip truck. Both of the trucks had lots of different things that moved. The concrete truck had an agitator that rolled around and around to mix the concrete. We saw that the trucks had lots more wheels than a car!!

Skeletons
On Tuesday, we looked at the parts of our bodies we use when we are on the playground, and how they move.
'I was using my hands and arms to swing on the monkey bars.' (Greer)
'We used our arms, hands, legs and feet to climb up the spiderweb.' (Deacon, Braeden & Tom)
'I used my tummy to do a sit up.' (Keane)
On Wednesday, we met 'Boney' the skeleton to further explore our bodies and how they move.
We worked hard to label some of the bones in the human body, did you know the human body has 206 bones!

Movement Walk
On Wednesday we decided to go out into the school environment to observe things moving. Firstly we predicted what we might see moving….
Meal worms wiggling
Birds flying
Cars rolling
Playground spinning
Can you think of some other things in the environment that move?
- Cars (James)
- Trees blowing in the wind (Braeden)
- Playground (Emma)
- People
- Fans (Jacob)
- Hands moving
- Footballs (Logan)
- IWB
- Ants (Tom)
- Birds (Braeden)
- Spiders (Chloe, Marley, Logan)
Then we put our ‘scientist eyes’ on and observed….
Trucks rolling
Birds flying
Cars rolling
Playground spinning

Voluntary & Involuntary Movements
Today we talked about how sometimes you can control your movements and sometimes you can't, which is called voluntary and involuntary movements.
We had a great time having a staring competition, but it was really hard not to blink!!!! We found that blinking is an involuntary movement.
Then we brainstormed other voluntary and involuntary movements our bodies do.
Check out our Glogster poster with all our ideas below.
Finally, we couldn't decide if falling over is a voluntary or involuntary movement so we had a balancing competition and found out that it is involuntary!!!
